Well apparently I think IMHO it’s just this whole 2013 generation Mac Pro. I have read the base config with the base graphic cards aren’t the ones with problems but in the midrange and higher configured graphics card. Just watching movies like Netflix off different browsers regardless if it’s chrome, safari or Firefox… it will crash once in a while. Nothing really happened with basic usage like browsing online and so forth. But it was dusty unsure if that had anything to do with it. Nothing responsive, just have to hold the power down button. However, after a few days, here and there when streaming (and that’s after updating to the most current OS) this will crash at times. I think it’s innovative especially with the big fan on top and having air vented up from the base. I maxed the ram to 64gb, and though it’s understood that you can somewhat easily change out the processor, I will probably stick with my standard 3.7 Xeon quad core as I’m sure it’ll outperform the Mac mini late 2012 2.3ghz quad i7 that I used to have.Įven though it’s a discontinued black cylinder “trash can” style, there’s been criticism where this was a design flaw I guess, even internally. I just got the basic late 2013 Mac Pro as I wanted to run Big Sur. Kudos to Apple for this design and thank goodness it has come down in price since its release on the market back in 2013. You will find that the canister design (or more affectionately called 'trash can'), will save on desktop space as well as provide a dependable and powerful machine. I am still running it through its paces but so far I have not been disappointed. Operating at 12-cores for me, this unit can keep up with my music production using Logic Pro especially. Once you upgrade the processor and RAM especially, you will find this unit is incredible. It still can compete with some of the current Mac Pros and the modular design of the hardware makes for an easy after-market project if you wish to upgrade the RAM, Video Card, harddrive and Processor.Īlthough Luke's review of this product does have some highlights and things to consider before buying.
